Memory Work 9-8-15

John 16:33
"I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace.  In the world you will have tribulation.  But take heart; I have overcame the world."

1 Samuel 17:47
All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.

Curriculum Night

Thank you parents for attending curriculum night.  We are excited to have your child in our class for 4th grade.  We have many great learning opportunities ahead of us this year and we look forward to serving your child in 4th grade.

A few notes in case you missed the evening...

Planners
Please look at planners to see what we are doing each day in class and if there is any homework that needs to be completed from the day's work.

Graded Papers/Notes to Go Home
All graded papers and important notes will be passed out at the end of each week.  Please look over these with your child.

Educate
Please look at Educate weekly with your student to go over their grades.  If you need help logging in please contact the school office for login information.

Reading
Please make time to read with your child each week.  This could be you reading while they listen or they could read aloud to you.  Also, they would benefit from having 20 minutes of reading time 5 days a week.  If we do not have an assignment for homework - please take time to read, it will help build a strong word and spelling foundation.

Math
Mrs. Endorf teaches math to all 4th graders.  We use Saxon Math starting in K-8th grade.  The format for questions is very similar as they continue on in their math career at CCLS.  When questions arise, please know that Mrs. Endorf takes questions before they turn in any assignments.

Memory Work
You will find the week's memory work posted each week on this blog.  I encourage you to look at our verse(s) for the week and discuss what they mean as you are memorizing these powerful words God has given us.  Our memory verses will follow our Christian Character Formation stories each week for the entire school.  Mr. Butterfield will send out the details of the story and background information each week with Bible story information.

August 28th

We had a great week in 4th grade last week and our routines are beginning to become more established.  Here are a few notes to keep you informed this week:

Seesaw
We are again using Seesaw to post things from our daily work so that you as parents can see what we are doing.  If you connected with your child last year, the account rolls over and you should be able to see their work without signing up again.  If you need to get connected, we are sending home a sheet with instructions on it as well as a QR code to sign in with.  Please email us with questions if you need help getting connected.

Twitter
Please follow us on Twitter to see pictures of what we are doing in class.  You can follow us at:
@CCLSMrsEndorf  or @CCLSGlackin

Educate
You should have received an email from Mr. Butterfield about our online grading system called "Educate".  In 4th grade we put grades up weekly on Educate so that you can see your child's progress and grade in each class.  It would be wise of you to familiarize yourself with the system.  Contact Mr. Butterfield if you have trouble logging in.

Curriculum Night
Please join us Tuesday August 29 at 7 pm for a chance to learn about the curriculum we will be covering this year.  This will also be a chance for you to ask questions if you have any.  See you there!

Devotion Journals

Just a quick note regarding our morning devotion (I think there may have been some questions about how it works).

Each morning we will do a devotion together as a class.  When your child walks into the room each morning, they are responsible for filling out a devotion journal page.  I will always have the Scripture Reading for the day and a question for them to answer about it up on the board.  They need to copy these down and write a thoughtful response to it.  We discuss this in class so they should be able to write things down as we discuss.  If for some reason they do not finish before devotions are over, they are responsible for finishing it during study hall or at home.  The book is always available to copy from if they need to later on in the day.

Every Friday after devotions they need to turn in their page to get points for their work.  If your child is absent this is not something they need to make up.  I instruct them to write "absent" on that day's box when they return to school.

August 21st

Hello 4th grade parents!
We are so excited to begin our school year.  Our first three days with the kids were very enjoyable.  It takes a while to get into our new routine, but the kids are doing well with it.  As you know, tomorrow is the day that the solar eclipse will be happening.  On Friday we met our chapel buddies and taught them a little bit about the eclipse.  We also practiced putting the eclipse glasses on correctly to make sure that everyone will be safe when we go outside.  Here is what we have planned for tomorrow:

We have enough glasses for all of the students so that we can safely view the eclipse.  We will be going outside starting around 11 ish to observe what is happening outside with the animals, plants, and light.  We will come back in for awhile and do some classwork  and recording of our observations, but will go back outside every 30-40 minutes to observe the changes.  At 1:00 we invite you to join us in the West parking lot/playground to view the Total Eclipse (You will need to bring your own glasses if you join us).   Of course, we understand that some of you will be keeping your kids with you for the day and that is completely fine.  Enjoy this rare event!
