News and Notes from 4th Grade

Wow - What an amazing week!  The "Kidz Under Construction" Operetta was beautiful and inspiring.  Our field trip weather was impeccable and The Magic House challenged the students' knowledge of building circuits with no wires! We have 4 weeks of school left in 4th grade.  Please help your child stay focused and come to school prepared with their materials for the remaining weeks.

Word of the Week: JUSTICE - God's Power for you to do what is right according to His Word.
Focus Question: When are you prepared to seek justice - and to endure justice - for God? 
Bible Story comes from Acts 16:16-40

Memory Work: Acts 16:30-31 ESV and the definition of 
30 Then he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31 And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
Justice: God's Power for you to do what is right according to His Word.

Math: Students will be working on 2-Digit by 2-Digit multiplication.

Spelling Test Monday.  Students have 7 spelling sentences/words to prepare for this week. No grammar quiz.


Important Dates

Monday, May 7th: Field Trip to the Middle School Campus
We will eat lunch with the 5th/6th grade, work on locks for lockers, and have class time with the 5th grade teachers.  Students will ride the bus back to the elementary campus and arrive at 3:35 pm.  If your student needs to stay at the middle school campus please email your child's teacher to let them know or else everyone comes back to the elementary building.

4th Grade News and Notes April 23rd-27th

Parents Needed for Upcoming Field Trip: Our final field trip of the year is Friday, April 27th.  We need about 7 parents to lead small groups while we are at the Magic House and on a scavenger hunt at Laumeier Sculpture Park.  Please email your child's teacher if you are available.

Students will need to bring a lunch from home or order a sack lunch from school.  Please send water with them as well.  Students should wear their regular Friday uniform.  We will leave at 9 am and return around 2:45 pm.

Writing: Students will need to complete a draft of their Nonfiction book using Google Docs this weekend so they will need access to a device to type their work.  Students have a checklist of what needs to be in their draft. If they did not finish in class this week, the rest is homework due on Tuesday.  
Students can log in by doing the following:
1. gmail.com or google.com
2. sign in
3. enter their email address example: 22studentname@ccls-stlouis.org
4. enter their individual password (same as their school Chromebook)
5. find their document in their Google Drive

A few more notes...

Thank you for sending in mints to the classroom.  If you are still sending mints in to share for the rest of the week that will be great!  Students will be testing all week in the mornings only.  Please help your child prepare for the tests by getting a good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast.

If you are able to join us for the field trip on Friday, April 27th please let your child's teacher know as soon as possible.  We need about 7 adults to make small groups for the Magic House and Laumeier Sculpture Park.

News and Notes for 4th Grade April 16th-20th - Achievement Testing Week

Achievement Tests are coming up this week.  Please help your child be ready to take these tests by getting a good night's sleep and eating a healthy breakfast.  Also, to help them stay alert during tests we allow them to have mints.  If you would please send in a bag of wrapped mints to share during testing week that would be great - Peppermint Patties, mint Lifesavers, peppermints, etc are all good options.  Please give these to your child's teacher.

Many art projects are hanging in the hallways and posted on Seesaw.  Please walk the hallway to check them out or post a comment on Seesaw for your child to see.

Graded papers were sent home on Friday.  Please take a few moments to look over your child's graded papers with them to see how they are doing on their school work and read any important notes from school.

News and Notes from 4th Grade - April 9th-13th

Achievement Tests are next week.  Please help your child be ready to take these tests by getting a good night's sleep and eating a healthy breakfast.  Also, to help them stay alert during tests mint has been proven to stimulate the brain.  If you would please send in a bag of wrapped mints to share during testing week that would be great - Peppermint Patties, mint Lifesavers, peppermints, etc are all good options.  Please give these to your child's teacher.

Spelling: Grammar and Spelling quizzes on Monday, April 9th.
New spelling words will start 4/10 for week 12.

Reading: Students are working in their reading notebook to document their reading time. We are working on building reading stamina.  Students will be using reading logs to record the time and number of pages they are reading during one sitting.  Students are expected to record a reading time each day at school and five per week at home.  We expect them to read for at least 20 minutes (or longer) each time they log. By Monday of each week a parent needs to initial their student's reading log. Students should log at least 10 readings this week.

Science: We are still learning about Energy in class our focus is changing from circuits to magnetic energy.

Social Studies: Students will take a "tour" of the states in the midwest.

Operetta Practice: Mrs. Killian sent home parts for the operetta. Please help your child prepare for their part in the operetta.

Happy Easter and Notes from 4th Grade

Have a very happy Easter as we celebrate the resurrection of our Savior!
School resumes on Tuesday, April 3rd.

Many art projects are hanging in the hallways and posted on Seesaw.  Please come in to check them out or post a comment on Seesaw for your child to see.

Thursday, April 5th Lutheran High School South has invited the 4th grade to see their production of "The Little Mermaid."  We will be leaving Thursday morning at 8:30 a.m. and arrive back to school around 11:15 a.m. 

Thursday, April 5th is Literacy Night.  Mrs. Leet sent an email with more information about the evening and how to RSVP.  Teachers are excited to offer fun and games with literacy.  This is a family event - please join us from 6-7:30 p.m.


Graded papers were sent home on Thursday. Please take a few moments to look over your child's graded papers to see how they are doing on their school work and read any important notes from school.
