News and Notes for January 22nd-26th

Graded papers were sent home on Friday. Please take a few moments to look over your child's graded papers to see how they are doing on their school work and read any important notes from school.

CCLS is glad to welcome children's book author Steve Swinburne on Friday, January 26th.
Mr. Swinburne will speak to students about the process of writing books, editing, revising, and other great details about his work.
Many of his titles are on his website www.steveswinburne.com

National Lutheran Schools' Week devotions in the classroom for the week.

Memory Work (ESV):
Hebrews 13:8
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

Math: Lessons 48-50 with a test on Friday. (unless our schedule changes from National Lutheran Schools' Week activities)

Don't have a math homework sheet?  Please print a math sheet here: Daily Math Homework Sheet

Spelling: Five spelling words were given on Tuesday along with the weekly grammar assignment.  There will a test on Monday.  On their test, students will be required to correctly write a meaningful sentence using each spelling word; spelling and grammar will be checked for each sentence.  They can practice and prepare sentences before Monday.  We are glad to proofread and discuss sentences with students if they have them prepared by Friday of each week.

Reading: Students started a new reading notebook for the spring semester. We are working on building reading stamina.  Students will be using reading logs to record the time and number of pages they are reading during one sitting.  Students are expected to record a reading time each day at school and five per week at home.  We expect them to read for at least 20 minutes (or longer) each time they log. By Monday of each week a parent needs to initial their student's reading log. Students should log at least 10 readings per week.

Science: We are starting a new unit on Energy.  We will be looking at circuits, electricity, magnets, and more!

Look forward to National Lutheran Schools' Week January 22nd-26th
A flyer was sent home with notes about the special dress days.
