We have our fourth spelling unit this week.  Any missed words will be on their spelling test on Thursday, October 4th.  Each student will need to have 20 spelling words from a list provided in class.  Every student has a copy of their list in their binder and a copy at school.  Also, students will add their lists to Seesaw this week so you have access to their spelling lists in multiple formats.  We will practice in class but please be working with your child during the week on their spelling.

Character Formation Story: Joseph Sold by His Brothers
Word of the Week: Responsibility - God's power for you to be accountable to God and others.

Memory Verse: Ephesians 2:8-9
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

Focus Question: How can you stay responsible when circumstances seem unfair?

Art: Students are sketching self-portraits.  Next, they will be painting them.

Reading: Students will be working in small groups and individually with teachers as we work on reading comprehension and fluency.  Students should bring home their reading notebooks to mark that they have spent time reading five out of seven nights for at least 20 minutes.  This weekend students will need a parent signature as part of a completion grade in reading.  There is a grading checklist your student has started in class, please help them use the checklist at home so they are ready to turn in notebooks on Monday.
Students are working on building their reading stamina. It is always helpful to talk about what they are reading at home.

Math: Students are encouraged to practice math facts at home, especially multiplication.  They should be able to say their multiplication facts as quickly as possible from memory.  Please work on these throughout the year.
Students will work on lessons 12-16 this week.
In class, students were given a specific username and password to an online math program that aligns perfectly with our math curriculum.  Please have your student login at home using a computer, tablet, or a cell phone.  You will be able to download the app from your app store for free.  The usernames and passwords are in the student's planner.

In case students forget to bring home their math book, here is an online version.  If there are measuring questions they will need to use their math book to complete those questions.

Social Studies: Students will have a test on Tuesday on Chapter 2 - Regions of the United States.  They have been reviewing with a study guide - please look for that at home too.  After the test students will spend some time learning about Missouri's history and reinforcing map skills.

Science: The isopods have arrived!  Students will be experimenting to find their preferred living environment.  Students will have an investigation or a quiz this week on Superworms and Isopods.

Our first field trip is coming up on Wednesday, October 10th.  Parents are needed to form small groups of students to explore and learn about the pioneer days of Missouri's history.  Please email Mrs. Endorf if you are able to join us for the day.
Wednesday, October 10th:
Students and parents joining us will need to bring a home/sack lunch and water for the field trip - we will eat at Shaw Nature Reserve.
Please watch the weather, as the day approaches, to plan accordingly for they type of shoes and jackets to wear/bring.  If it rains it could be muddy in the field.  Weather permitting we will try to have our field trip as planned. Hoping for a nice fall day. :)
