New and Notes from 4th Grade February 20th-23rd

First graders will hold their annual "garage sale" Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday (Feb. 21,22, and 23) of this coming week.  Students will be able to shop before school between 7:50-8:10 am.  Items will cost between 10 cents and $1.00.  First graders will also be selling cookies for 50 cents a bag at lunchtime Wednesday through Friday. Thanks for supporting the first graders in their effort to raise money for their friends in Uganda.

**Parents we need your help**
Magic House is presenting to the 4th graders with hands-on activities about electricity.
We need 10 parents to help from 8:00-10:00 am on Monday, February 26th.  Please email us if you are able to help that morning.
We have four parents signed up to help as of now.
Thank you!

Graded papers were sent home on Friday. Please take a few moments to look over your child's graded papers to see how they are doing on their school work and read any important notes from school.

Character Formation Lesson: Jesus Blesses the Children
Respect: God's power for you to honor Him and others.
Read Mark 10:13-16
Focus Question: How can a child like faith enable you to show love and respect for others?

Memory Work (ESV):
Mark 10:13-14
13 And they were bringing children to him that he might touch them, and the disciples rebuked them. 14 But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God.

Spelling: Five spelling words were given on Wednesday -- no grammar quiz this week. There will a test on Tuesday.  On their test, students will be required to correctly write a meaningful sentence using each spelling word; spelling and grammar will be checked for each sentence.  They can practice and prepare sentences before Wednesday.  We are glad to proofread and discuss sentences with students if they have them prepared by Friday of each week.
Tuesday's Test is Week 6 words
Spellings Words starting 2/20 are Week 7

Reading: Students are working in their reading notebook to document their reading time. We are working on building reading stamina.  Students will be using reading logs to record the time and number of pages they are reading during one sitting.  Students are expected to record a reading time each day at school and five per week at home.  We expect them to read for at least 20 minutes (or longer) each time they log. By Monday of each week a parent needs to initial their student's reading log. Students should log at least 8 readings this week.

Science: We are starting a new unit on Energy.  We will be looking at circuits, electricity, magnets, and more!

Six Flags Reading Logs were sent home.  They are due Friday, February 23rd.

Awesome job during Jump Rope for Heart week.  Kindergarten - 4th Grade raised a new record of $14,777 -- that's 294 lives saved!!  Give your kids a great big hug for all their hard work!

Operetta Practice: Mrs. Killian sent home parts for the operetta. Please help your child prepare for their part in the operetta.
