News and Notes from 4th Grade

Magic House is presenting to the 4th graders with hands-on activities about electricity.
We need 10 parents to help from 8:00-10:00 on Monday, February 26th.  Please email us if you are able to help that morning.
Thank you!

4th graders are returning to the Shaw Nature Reserve on Wednesday, February 7th.  This field trip will be outside all day -- please dress accordingly. The bus will leave after chapel and return around 2:30-2:45, weather permitting we get to stay outdoors all day!  Students will be learning about the process of collecting maple syrup and photosynthesis.
Adult Fee: $3 (please pay at the visitor's center upon arrival)
Students will need a snack, lunch and drink with them on the field trip.  We will be eating outside under a pavilion.

Graded papers were sent home on Friday. Please take a few moments to look over your child's graded papers to see how they are doing on their school work and read any important notes from school.

Spelling: Five spelling words were given on Tuesday along with the weekly grammar assignment.  There will a test on Monday.  On their test, students will be required to correctly write a meaningful sentence using each spelling word; spelling and grammar will be checked for each sentence.  They can practice and prepare sentences before Monday.  We are glad to proofread and discuss sentences with students if they have them prepared by Friday of each week.
Spelling Words: Monday's Test is Week 4 - New Words starting 2/6 are Week 5

Reading: Students are working in their reading notebook to document their reading time. We are working on building reading stamina.  Students will be using reading logs to record the time and number of pages they are reading during one sitting.  Students are expected to record a reading time each day at school and five per week at home.  We expect them to read for at least 20 minutes (or longer) each time they log. By Monday of each week a parent needs to initial their student's reading log. Students should log at least 10 readings per week.

Science: We are starting a new unit on Energy.  We will be looking at circuits, electricity, magnets, and more!

Six Flags Reading Logs were sent home.  They are due Friday, February 23rd.

Awesome job during Jump Rope for Heart week.  Kindergarten - 4th Grade raised a new record of $14,602 -- that's 292 lives saved!!  Give your kids a great big hug for all their hard work!

Mrs. Killian sent home parts for the operetta. Please work with your child on being ready for their part.
